All sorts of people can be alcoholics; young, old, educated, professionals etc. Only 3 to 5 percent of alcoholics are living rough on the streets. The rest have jobs and families and are able to function quite normally.
An alcoholic is someone whose drinking causes a continuing and growing problem in any facet of his/her life.
