1 Loss of control:
The alcoholic finds him/herself getting drunk more often or drinking more. The alcoholic finds it hard to stop drinking when he/she wants to.
2 Progression:
The alcoholic becomes less dependable, drunk more often and more obsessed with drinking to the point of neglecting his/her other responsibilities.
3 Withdrawal Symptoms:
When not drinking the alcoholic may be subject to nausea, headaches, vomiting, the shakes and in the advanced stages of alcoholism hallucinations may occur also known as the DT's.
(Delirium Tremens).
4 Personality Change:
The alcoholic behaves differently when drinking to when he/she is completely sober.
5 Blackouts:
These are a type of amnesia and can occur even when the alcoholic is not drinking. The time elapsed can vary from minutes to entire days. This can be very upsetting to the alcoholic and to those around him/her, as neither can understand why the alcoholic is forgetting his/her responsibilities.
