Born Ernesto Guevara de la Serna on the 14 June 1928 in Rosario, one of the most important cities in Argentina. Ernesto was born into a relatively upper-middle class family, the first of five children. He developed asthma at the age of 2, something that would plague him for the rest of his life. After consulting a doctor the family was advised to move to a dryer climate. His family chose to move to Alta Garcia, Cordoba.

Ernesto’s bad asthma forced him to miss school quit a bit in his earl years. However, he did not go uneducated. His mother, Celia de la Serna would teach Ernesto from home when ever he was not well. As he grew older, he would lock himself into his fathers library when he had an asthma attack, where he would read until he felt better. These teachings had a big influence on Ernesto. From these he not only learned to enjoy reading, but also learn to think for himself.

In 1937, Ernesto is 9 years old and goes to the third grade of primary school, and shows some early signs of the man he will come to be. He follows up engagingly the Spanish Civil war, and on a map he indicates the military revolution.
